Thank you so much to GIGA Proteomics team for wonderful technical services & cooperation. GIGA has been able to serve greatly in many contexts of proteomics. Overall, it is a nice experience with GIGA.
Our research team is expert in platelet biology. Beyond a key role in hemostasis and thrombosis, growing evidence indicates that platelets contribute to regulate inflammation, and they actively promote cancer development and progression. In a recent study, we investigated their role in inflammation-dependent colorectal carcinogenesis by using a clinically relevant mouse model of colitis-associated cancer. Thanks to the help of the GIGA Proteomics platform, we conducted an unbiased proteomic analysis of releasates of platelets isolated at pre-tumoral stage to identify platelet-derived soluble factors that might trigger carcinogenesis. These analyses revealed a striking modification of platelet content in cancer compared to control mice. Platelets from cancer mice expressed high levels of acute phase proteins at pre-tumoral stage. Among these proteins, platelets were a major source of circulating protumoral serum amyloid A (SAA) proteins. Thus, our findings highlight the fundamental importance of platelets in early events that drive carcinogenesis. Furthermore, we propose that antiplatelet drugs might be useful to prevent cancer onset under inflammatory conditions.
