Molecular Mass Determination

Molecular mass determination is the simplest analysis that can be achieved by mass spectrometry. We perform it routinely on several kinds of samples. Depending on the molecule to characterize, we recommend using different kinds of mass spectrometers:

- For small molecules (Mw < 1000 Da): ESI-FT-ICR allows a sub-ppm accuracy and molecular formula determination or confirmation

- For purified homogeneous proteins with Mw up to 70 kDa : ESI-Q-TOF will give the mass of the entire protein with a 100ppm accuracy.

- For other cases (a.o. molecules with high molecular weight): MALDI-TOF analysis will provide an average mass of the compound.
